University of Iowa Junior Day

The Iowa Hawkeyes football program entertained a number of 2011 prospects for its Junior Day last weekend. Here’s a small bit on some of the headliners that were in attendance.

DaVaris Daniels WR, Illinois

Scout.comDaniels is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound,  four-star recruit out of Vernon Hills High School. According to Scout, Daniels came away from Junior Day very impressed with Iowa. He holds scholarship offers from Illinois, Iowa, Miami, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

Here’s a video of Daniels participating in Illinois’ Summer Camp ’09. Hey, DaVaris, take a hint from C.J. Fiedorowicz.

Evan Spencer WR, Illinois

Scout.comSpencer is Daniels’ teammate from Vernon Hills HS and is listed at 6-foot1, 175 pounds. While he’s only rated as a one-star recruit by Scout, the Hawkeyes are still interested and so are other major programs. Spencer has received offers from Illinois, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Obviously, many schools see the value in having two former high school teammates on their team. Iowa has yet to come through with an official offer.

See Spencer with Daniels at Illinois’ camp.

Christian Suntrup QB, Missouri

Scout.com Suntrup, a three-star prospect out of Chaminade College Prep (St. Louis), holds three offers from Iowa, Nebraska and Stanford–the Hawkeyes being the latest to offer.

Here’s some film on Suntrup.

Austin Blythe DT/OG, Iowa

Rivals.comIowa’s own Austin Blythe has visited the Iowa campus several times already but returned for junior day to see if he couldn’t find something different from his last visits. Scout has Blythe as a three-star recruit. Oh, yeah…he’s a pretty darn good wrestler, too. Maybe he’d be interested in two sports?

Justice Hayes RB, Michigan

Rivals.comAccording to Rivals, Hayes is one of the top 2011 prospects in the state of Michigan. Scout has the 5-11, 185-pound back rated three stars. Offers have come from Iowa, Cincinnati, Michigan State and Northwestern but he is getting a lot of attention from all over the country.

Some of the schools interested include Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama, LSU and Stanford. After joining the Hawkeyes for Junior Day, Hayes has Iowa near the top of his list.

If you’re unsure about whether or not the Hawkeyes need another running back, watch Hayes in action and you’ll be hooked on this stud.
